Does anyone know the story behind why the infield at the Berwyn Little League field at St. Mary's was bulldozed?  I was told that it was for girls softball (I guess they don't use a mound) and specifically the Berwyn Bash.  Apparently, the Bash are first-class organization, but from my vantage point, I see at least 6 softball diamonds in the city and that leaves only two diamonds for baseball (one is for older kids with 90 foot basepaths) that have a pitching mound.  So taking the little league field and giving it to the Bash was not a very fair allocation of resources, limited though they are in our fair city.  Since O'Connor was involved for years with the little league (we heard his speech on Saturday morning - even up here) and the North Berwyn Park Dist. is now running the Little League, I wonder if Ald. and Park Board member "Petty" Phelan had a hand in ruining that field to spite O'Connor rather than to benefit girls softball.
