So I have this tall flowering thing (the only damn plant I didn't save the pkg info on (sorry, new to this))...

Didn't think it'd bloom this year, but it did.

Started out great,
exactly as I had hoped for...
tall vertical flowers, meant to pop against the lillies...

Yet, as the flowers are growing, it seems the stem is losing strength,
and the plant is falling over under it's own weight...

But it doesn't appear to be dying completely,
as closer inspection reveals the buds are attempting
to work their way back up on their own!

Previously in this location were two HUGE, out of control Mock Orange bushes, blocking the view out my windows.

Any ideas?

I do remember the package came with 10 bulbs or so...maybe they like to grow in packs? ;D

I was trying do    36" Lilly > 48" tall red vertical thing > 30" Lilly   as sort of a tall border to the side...

The far right lilly has only reached about 12" (lower right of pic 3, above)...I think I planted the bulb sideways.   :angry8:

Glads grow well in most soil types without added fertilizer, but they need good drainage.
Watering: For best quality flowers, your glads should get an inch of water each week from rainfall or watering, if possible.

They probably get too much water, for one...I did leave the hose on overnight one night when "soaking" the Alberta Spruce..

Grow them in full sun and in a bed that gets good air circulation.
Hmmm...my tree on the parkway shades much of the area till about 10a...after noon, it takes till about 2 or 3 before sunlight starts streaming between the houses and onto those side flowers.  You can see the one tall Lilly is bent, too, but I think that's always leaning toward the sun in the short window of direct light.  I may just need to plant those in outer bed next year, which is just what I didn't want to do.  That's supposed to be for the shorter flowers.  :-\

Anyone else?
Is it feasible to do like with small trees, with a stick and some twine to hold it up?

Berwyn Patsy

I never was much the one for plants or flowers while living in Berwyn, but now maybe
because I have more time I planted some perennials this spring.
The most beautiful one  and most hardy, seems to be a tall plant called a Russian Sage. It is so colorful
(purple, you IVB people would love it! lol). Anyone have any of these?

I haven't planted glads in a long time, but I do remember having to stake them.
