What|Heavy rainfall in April and May have left a large swath of Proksa Park underwater. Ducks have started using the flooded area as a training pool for their ducklings, and some residents have jokingly called the area "Lake Proksa."
So What|Although the flooding is a problem — and there are plans to fix it — Berwyn Park District Executive Director Jeff Janda said water on the fields of Proksa Park is also water that doesn't end up in the sewer system causing backups or in residents' basements.
What's next|Janda said more than $100,000 in state funding has been allocated to fix drainage issues in the park without increasing the likelihood of flooding homes. That money, however, is tied up in a state spending bill that is currently being challenged in the state's court system. "We're aware of the problem at Proksa Park and we're trying to do the best we can, but it's going to take time and it's going to take dollars," Janda said.
