Bear,

Are you really Lace Curtain, or just puttin' on the dog for the neighbors?

Our kitchen was updated, but with cabinets that don't really match the door and one original cabinet still in there.  It works, but ultimately I'd like to have an exact match.   We have a huge problem with configuration with the doorway to the attic being in the kitchen, rather than in the dining room or hallway.

@Guy - that was some SERIOUS 70's flooring you had goin' there!

we had the same problem...you can see in picture 1 where we reversed the staircase and in #2 the corner sink where the staircase was.

That's the best way for it, no question!

I would do that as well, but our frame bungalow is too small.

Is there a door still at the bottom to keep the heat on your main level, or is that even an issue?

We also pulled off three layers of vinyl and found wood in our kitchen.  We opted for a laminated tile instead of refinishing.  We did, however, refinish all of the wood floor elsewhere in our bungalow.  And let me tell you...they was HORRIFYING!  (please note that the hideous and poorly designed side by side refridgerator has been replaced with a snazzy new one--one of those freezer on the bottom types with the split doors above.  It rules!

wait -  that's your dog!

pkd,
You mean Lace Curtin Irish, right?
Terri

Bear

"Lace curtain Irish" could be as poor as the Shanty Irish but
they had notions of being more respectable.  They were called
that because they would put up lace curtains for appearances
sake, even in a shanty town.  Thus the term is far from being
   a complement.

Bear,

Leave it to the Irish to caste their own people by the curtins hung.
BTW, I have white lace hanging.

It is the only window treatment to use in these old homes with tall narrow windows to highlight
the tons of natural oak

We almost have identical white lace. LOL!

omg, what little dolls!  thanks for sharing them!

WOW....what great remodels.
The inlays in Bears home are wonderful and Boris kitchen is incredible.
Anyway, we excavated our maple floors in the kitchen first thing. Under two layers of linoleum and vinyl were these beautiful planks
The are permanent scarred w/ nails and occasional tar paper stains but gorgeous none the less... I think it adds character.

Bear

Actually Sevron, several prefinished  wood floor manufacturers are coming out with
distressed flooring to replicate imperfections
