I think the most interesting items on the agenda are the re-submission of the non-partisan election referendum, the questionable diploma's memo, and proposals by Alderman Lovero to get rid of the Oak Park Housing Authority to save $250K and to furlough non-union employees to save the city money.

It should be an interesting meeting on Tuesday.

I thought they voted down the mail machine item at last council?

I think I know who filed suit to get their diploma accepted.  So much for saving the city money from lawsuits...

Does anyone know exactly what these purported union concessions are that Mr. Lovero speaks of?

According to the packet Alderman Lovero is requesting furloughs for nonunion employees similar to what the City of Chicago has implemented.  Unless there is another union concession you are talking about.

There are, per Bob Lovero:

Terri, I am not privy to continuing union negotiation however I will
say that #7 brings up some viable points. Whacking a few "lowest
of the totem pole" PWD workers and others does little to address the
2 mil budget deficit, and is only a band-aid on the situation. that takes
needed services away from the taxpayer.

Where are real measures from the OC to address the situation? EVERYONE
should equally feel the pain. As mayor, OC should step up and take a 10% paycut
to show leadership. Appointees and dept. heads should share this burden thru
furloughs or pay cuts. Now we are talking some money. The ridiculous insurance
contract speaks volumes. Why does PWD have TWO appointed supervisors when the dept.
functioned admirably in the past with only one?

Floating more bonds as he did in the past, solves nothing, it just pushes
the problem into the corner.
...What else can we do now except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair...

Bonster

Yeah, that makes sense.  Furlough some so others can have their jobs.

Hey bear how can you say that you don't agree with union negotiations?? What if you got laid off and your union wanted to help get your job back???

Bear

"Hey bear how can you say that you don't agree with union negotiations?? "

Never said that, if you re-read my post you will see that I stated that I was not
aware of the content of negotiation.

So you agree that the mayor shouldn't have started with working employees rather than bosses he hired with the big money jobs??

a
bear that ways addressed to you.

Bear

Joe, I feel the cuts should have been across the board to address the entire
2 mil deficit. OC only threw a dime into a big bucket with the layoffs. There was no
master plan to take care of the problem in one fell swoop.
...What else can we do now except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair...

joe martin

Who are you to say those people should have been laid off?? Do you work?? If so, how long? Some of those people were with the city for almost 20 years. I guarantee you don't know or care for said employees?? Thats the problem with these new people that run this town.
