Cops find drugs, guns

Tribune staff reports

Police arrested a man who they said was storing cocaine with a street value of about $1.5 million in two southwest suburban locations.

Richard Gacho, 30, was arrested Friday as he left his Burbank home in the 7700 block of South McVicker Avenue, said police spokeswoman JoAnn Taylor.

A search of Gacho's home turned up one kilogram of cocaine, $175,000 in cash, four firearms and drug paraphernalia, police said. Another 50 grams of cocaine and more drug paraphernalia were found in a detached garage, police said.

The search in Burbank led investigators to a garage in the 6400 block of West 28th Place in Berwyn where police found another 11 kilograms of cocaine, Taylor said.

The search of the Burbank home also led police to the home of Gacho's mother in the 4900 block of South Campbell Avenue in Chicago.

When police arrived at the Campbell Avenue address, they saw a man running from the home with a black bag in his hand, Taylor said.

Inside the bag, police found a nonworking rocket-propelled grenade, Taylor said. The Chicago Police bomb and arson squad determined the grenade was a dummy, Taylor said.

The man told police he bought the grenade years ago and was trying to dispose of it, Taylor said.

He was not charged with any crime, nor was Gacho's mother, police said.

Gacho is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 4 on charges of possession of cocaine and unauthorized use of a weapon.

Where on earth do you buy a thing like this?!!!
Geeeez! Good thing it was a dumby!
No wonder our poor soliders are still over there! If people near Midway can get one, so can everyone else I guess.

There was also a posting today about another (former) Berwynite - the following is abbreviated from the Chicago Sun Times

Sex offender drowns at Montrose Harbor

A man whose body was pulled out of Montrose Harbor was identified Sunday as Truman Hurley, a registered sex offender.

Hurley, 47, of the 4100 block of North Kenmore, was with friends Saturday afternoon and "went down to the lake to cool off and drink some vodka,'' said Lt. Rick Batrich of the Town Hall police district

In 1992, Hurley was convicted and sentenced for the 1991 aggravated criminal sexual assault of a 9-year-old victim, according to Battrich.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, Battrich said.

Hurley, who had recently been released from prison, was in compliance with rules that require him to register with police as a sex offender, Battrich said.

He previously lived in the 6500 block of West Stanley in Berwyn, according to state records.
