Who is this guy?

Kevin Hickey was a left handed relief pitcher for the White Sox when they won the division in 1983.  He was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, so it was a local kid making and playing for the team.

He was the 1980s version of Don Pall  ;)

The Jackal

No, Hickey was Hickey and Pall was Pall.

Hickey was born and raised in Brighton Park and a local 16 inch softball legend.

Pall was a suburban putz from Bloomingdale.

Born in Chicago, went to Evergreen Park.

He moved to Bloomingdale later in life.

Kevins road to the majors could be a script for a movie. As a kid his dream was to play for The White Sox. As Jackal said he was a great 16" softball player. He played for probably the most famous team in Chicago 16' history The Bobcats. One night in the late 70's after a game at Kelly Park a man who was watching the game came up to Kevin and said he was a scout with The White Sox. He invited Kevin to a local try out the Sox had coming up at a local park. Kevin went and they signed him to a minor league contract. His dream came true. He played in the majors on and off for six years with The Sox and The Orioles.
Kevins brother played softball in the league at Clyde Park in Cicero for quite a few years in the 80's and early 90's as well as other leagues and tournaments. Got to meet Kevin a couple of times and saw his brother twice a week around here. Both great guys. R.I.P Kevin you will be missed.
