Overhead sewers essentially serve as a single standpipe for all basement drains, no?  Floor drains, laundry tubs, toilets, showers, etc. are directed into a single pit and then pumped up and over street level, thus making them impervious to flooding, no?  If so, the key would be the pump - battery backup in case of power outages, although if nothing is directed into the pit - no toilets flushing, no washer usage, etc. - you wouldn't necessarily need the pump, right?

Drainage from drain tiles and gutter water are other issues - they can't be stopped, so the pump would need to be backed up, I would think.

I have two pumps - an ejector pump and a sump pump.  Some stuff goes out the ejector pump and some stuff goes out the sump pump.
If you have overhead sewers, I think you will need an ejector pump.
