Please join 22 for an Opening Reception of our latest exhibit - Night Lights.

January 19th
7-10 pm

Night Lights is our first exhibit of 2013. The show features a variety of work that revolves around the concept of light, ranging from light fixtures and industrial design to conceptual rendering of light, abstraction, and site-specific architectonic installation. Like most of what we do at 22, this show grew out of our intentions to blur the boundaries between art and design. "Light" is a concept that art and design share, but it is a concept that different practitioners approach in from vastly different perspectives. The idea of "light" has connotations of transcendence, mortality, obsolescence, and simple utility, all of which are explored in this exhibition. Painting, cinema, and photography have long been concerned with capturing the effect of light sources on our perception, whether that is literal, atmospheric, or psychological. Industrial designers are responsible for shaping light in a more direct way, yet their work shares many of the same emotional, illustrative, and technical foundations of more art-based work.
