Nice..
I must admit that I get pretty pissed off when I find little baggies on my front lawn.

Do call the PD about these 'lil baggies -- or send location via this link. BTW -- this link to drug enforcement dept. e-mail also goes to the PDA's of the Drug Unit detectives AND Police Chief Kushner.
I email in when I find the baggies on my block . The first few times I would get a response, but have not for quite a while now. So I don't know how well the email is working.

Please -- keep reporting anyway. Officers DO read these e-mails and do follow up. They just are just short on time to e-mail back regularly.
If you can, you might also try calling -- and asking for the Drug Unit. Worst case scenario, you can leave your message & information on their voicemail. And -- thanks for reporting. Wish more people would call PD regarding 'suspicious activity, people, and found objects...'.

I do still report , sorry if my post was unclear on that. I was just noting the change in what was happing when I report , with no real change in the finding of the baggies.

Thanks for posting that. I was walking home from work about a week ago, heading north on Oak Park from Cermak, and was approached (actually, they tried to get me to stop) by two guys near the corner of 19th and Oak Park, asking me if I wanted to buy drugs (they rattled off a list of what they had). Soon as I rounded the corner, I called 911 on my cell phone and reported them, but I have no idea if anyone responded...
I know from reading this board, and riding thru this area (funkey town?) trouble has arrived.
Don't ask me why, but I was surprised that nitewing was actually made to stop to purchase some drugs.
My first thought was, I wondered how many kids on their way to the Grammer Schools or Morton are stopped and bothered by thugs to do the same.
I am sure the BPD, and city officials are aware of the dangerous conditions lurking among this neighborhood.
I would thnk the police have increased patrols during school hours.

Juveniles continue stealing bikes
At least three people were victims of a group of bike thieves who knocked people off their bikes and battered them. Police arrested two Oak Park boys whom they say were among half a dozen youths who approached a Oak Park man in the 500 block of Highland Avenue the afternoon of Aug. 27 and asked him what time it was. One then pushed him off the bike, and rode off on it. When a second cyclist attempted to help him, one of the youths punched him in the face and took his bike. Three of the assailants were stopped shortly after and identified by their victims. Both bikes were recovered.
The previous afternoon some 6-8 youths, estimated to be 12 to 16 years old and most wearing white T-shirts, approached an Oak Park man riding near Jackson Boulevard and Ridgeland Avenue. One pushed the man off the bike and another punched him in the head, glancing off his helmet while a third rode off on the bike. The gang then dispersed in different directions, reportedly laughing as they ran.

Two charged with battery in gas station brawl
A Berwyn man and his 15-year-old son face battery charges after they allegedly attacked a man who wouldn't move his car at a North Riverside gas station last week.
According to North Riverside police, a 59-year-old Brookfield man had parked his car between the gas pumps and the minimart at the Community Food and Gas Mart, 8545 Cermak Road, at 7 p.m.
Parked across from the man was a black Dodge driven by 59-year-old Raymond Toledo, Toledo's son was a passenger in the car. While the victim filled his tank, Toledo reportedly shouted at the victim to move his car. After a few moments, Toledo's son allegedly exited the car. The victim walked into the minimart, pursued by the other two.
Toledo allegedly punched the victim in the back while his son threw soda bottles at the victim. The victim wrestled Toledo to the ground, while his son reportedly stood over the victim, kicking him. As the fight broke up, police arrived on the scene.
After viewing the store's video of the event, police charged Toledo with battery and petitioned the son to juvenile authorities for battery.
From the same page:
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Riverside police charged Berwyn resident John Markou, 39, with possession of drug paraphernalia on Aug. 30 during a traffic stop just after 6 p.m. According to the report, an officer on patrol did a computer check of a black Ford pickup that was headed westbound on Ridgewood Road near First Avenue and found that the owner's driver's license was suspended. After arresting Markou for driving while suspended, police searched the vehicle and reportedly found numerous empty plastic baggies and one baggy with a white powder residue in the center console. Police also reported recovering from the vehicle's glove box, a small pipe typically used to ingest crack cocaine.

He punched a guy in the head WHO WAS WEARING A HELMET!

Certainly hope there are no more in the area. Do at least report what you found, and exactly where, to the e-mail address shown above.

That stinks. I walk around there quite often and sometimes do go through that alley - sometimes with my 7-year either walking or riding her bike and often with the dog too. Thanks for posting.
Not saying it can't happen anywhere but the general rule of thumb is steer clear of multi-units (in and around the premises)...more people=more chance there's gonna be low-life scum

That area is being checked this morning for syringes/drug paraphernalia.
I did report it to the above address and sure enough the police were out checking the alley within an hour! I was very happy with their quick response.

You're such an optimist...let's see, is the needle half full or half empty?
Looks like we have a neighbor to keep an eye on. Saw a car pull up at the corner by our house, some individuals sat for a while, made a phone call and a few minutes later a kid (early 20s) came running to the car, handed something off and ran back to his house. The house is a total dump. Directly across form the Mayor. This may be in interesting summer.
Shoot a note off to the PD.
I'd also write down the license plate if you could get it.

I saw the police checking out things on 31st, too. Good to finally see some action.

Maybe it was a book he wanted to share - LOL! No, but honestly it might not have been related to drugs. However, if it was, being that the house is directly across the mayor you might expect to see the SWAT team at some point bustin the door down.

OK, how to handle this. Just another reason why privacy fences in the middle of a block are NOT a good thing. The kids next door to me are often back there smoking pot. The way they sit, I can see them as I go down my back stairs, but they are not visable from the street or alley. How do I turn them in without it be obvious it was me? I have told the police that there are street rumors about another house down the streat dealing as well.
Tell them what you wrote here. And tell them they are welcome to enter your yard. Once they smell the weed, they'll figure out how to best deal with it..

Tell the cops you smell cannabis coming from the next door neighboirs yard, you know what burning marijuana smells like as you've smelled it before, and you saw then with marijuana cigarettes in their hands from your vantage point on your stairs. Describe the persons you observe with marijuana in detail also (height, weight, age, clothing, etc...).l
Kids? can you describe? Actually, depending on the kids, I would walk down the gangway, and call the kid over that lives at the house and say ... you know, the whole neighborhood can smell that you're smoking pot back here. I'm not going to call the police on you, but I can't assure you other neighbors that are upset won't. So, I'm tipping you off that you need to stop. We can't have that kind of thing going on and not do anything about it.
The above is probably not what police want me to do but I guess I am more willing to let them decide their own fate, plus it let's them know that people DO see, and smell what's going on. So, a fence provides no secret.
What really bugs me is when they smoke pot on their way to sit in a classroom.

Call the Berwyn PD and ask to speak to a Drug Unit or Tactical Unit Officer -- or the Watch Commander - and state exactly what you've written here. If you have a basic "log" of usual days of the weeks/times of day -- all the better.
Tell BPD of your concern about being known as the complaintant.
I assure you, the Berwyn PD officers will do their best to keep you/your name out of it -- if that is what you want.
At times, I've asked officers to come either to the back or the front of my house (opposite of where the suspicious activity was taking place - or so that I'm not seen speaking with officers by even other neighbors) and they have always respected these requests.
Please don't try to handle it yourself.
For one thing, consider that you will be dealing with persons "under the influence"...

If you call 911 they'll tell you to meet the officer in the alley, or wait till the officer gets there. This has happened twice now to us. Definitely go higher up the chain. 911 is a waste of time unfortunately.

The area from 16th & Oak Park ave. to 22nd is bad. You see a lot of for sale signs there. The residents living there look to be low-income section eights.

Yeah, keep on it and inform the BPD often. They can't be everywhere at once, but collectively we can.

Don't leave a message with the people that answer the phones at Berwyn Police. I know for a fact the messages are rarely put through. I wouldn't even leave a message on the offices, I know they listen and delete while rolling eye. Talk to someone personally, even if is just the desk police person, (In person is best) then make sure you get their name and make it obvious you did. Then still check back for updates. If you do this and are persistant, it will get done. In other words, sqeak wheel, sqeak! And if you don't leave your name, it is common pratice there for them to figure, you don't care enough to leave your name, they won't respond. And always always always, if you think there is a report beong done GET THE REPORT NUMBER. If the report does not start with the last two digits of the present year followed by a dash, (09-???) they are blowing you off.

Not in my experience. Called in a possible burglary last week, was asked for my name, said I did not wish to give it, and turned on my scanner. I heard the the dispatcher immediately give out the information. I saw the two officers checking it out -- total response time, about three minutes.
