BOYS BASKETBALL: Scarlata named all-state

Morton center Luke Scarlata received impressive recognition from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.

The senior was named all-state for Class 4A after the panel voted him onto the team at the state tournament.

Scarlata was a three-time Suburban Life All-Area selection, an all-Proviso West Holiday Tournament selection and an all-West Suburban Gold selection.

He averaged 14.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 4.3 blocks and 2.2 assists in 2008-09 and is receiving interest to play at Loyola, Southern Methodist, Western Illinois and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville next school year.

The Berwyn resident will be playing in the Chicago High School Classic this Friday at Niles North High School.
