Anyone know anyplace to get decent kids bikes---used? Looking for a 16" 2 wheel starter, preferably girls.

thrift stores and craigslist...especially keep your eyes open here.... http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/zip/

Bikes show up there free often. Pump up a couple of tires and you're good to go

My oldest son was telling me about freecycle.org last week and asking whether we have it here in Berwyn and I told him I thought that was where we put out our junk in the alley and someone comes along to take it and the rest the garbage man gets.  As for bikes we have a ton.
