Title: If You Were To Buy A Used Snow Blower Locally...
Post by: seebee on March 09, 2014, 10:11:09 AM
I think I want a 21 / 22 inch 2 stage with preferably electric start.

Thinking used is a possibility, but from someplace that could also repair it, or offer a warranty.

Local suggestions for used snowblowers?

Whatever you do, go with a Toro...preferably one with an engine NOT made in China.  The worst brand to buy is Craftsman.  You have to use only their parts to repair it.

There is a repair place for Toro on Cermak Rd in north Riverside.

You could always check out the Consumer Reports ratings.  I'm staring at the Feb. 2012 ratings on page 46.  There's some surprising test results.  Worst is probably Yard Machines.

I got my old Toro off Craigslist.

Another good place is on Cermak near the Home Depot

Jack's is amazing.  What a great place to have in Berwyn.  They just repaired my Toro.  It wasn't cheap but now ready to face the snow.

Had our used Craftsman snow thrower repaired at this place in Elmhurst.  He did a great job and he was able to get used parts to repair so the cost was much lower.  Realize it is not Berwyn but we had originally brought ours to a local Forest Park shop which ended up closing and never fixed our thrower (thankfully, we were able to retrieve it before someone just took it).
