Berwyn, IL -
The Berwyn Park District recently hired Conor Cahill to serve as its new superintendent of parks position, a job which has previously been vacant for the past seven years.

Cahill will oversee maintenance of the buildings and grounds of the district, and recreational programming, aside from that of early childhood, according to the park district's Executive Director Jeff Janda.

The park district advertised for the opening on a national Web site, and received more than 30 resumes of interested applicants, according to Janda. Of the 30, seven were chosen to come in for interviews earlier this month, the executive director said.

Cahill has a bachelor of science degree from Illinois State University in recreation and park administration, and will be paid around $40,000 for the position, Janda said.

Cahill is expected to begin work on Feb. 4.

Is this a necessary position?  Was there a crisis, has the BPD fallen on rough times w/out this position over the last 7 years?

I'm going by the organizational chart here:

Isn't that what Janda was doing?

The article is incorrect, Conor was hired as superintendent of recreation, not superintendent of parks. Hopefully he will breathe some life into our programs and increase attendance and participation. As it is now, we cancel way too many courses and programs due to lack of interest. My hope is he'll have some new ideas to better utilize our facilities.
