Berwyn, IL -
The Berwyn Park District finalized plans this week to take over property neighboring its Liberty Cultural Center, with hopes of developing the space into additional parking, landscaping and a playground for children.

A house now stands on the property which sits beside the park district's newest facility that is home to a variety of its programs and a gym which seats 250 people and is rented out to host parties.

The park district closed on the property Monday and plans to raze the house at 6501 27th Place in the coming months to make way for the new construction.

Hi Everyone,

Tonight Berwyn Park District Commissioners, Frank Amaro, Larry Cullen, Edward Karasek, Christine Prenderville and Jeff Boyajian, president, will be awarding a bid to a demolition contractor for the destruction of the Sears Home at 6501 W. 27th Place .  Their meeting is at Freedom Park , 3701 Scoville at 8:00 p.m.   If you're so inclined, you may want to be present to see your tax dollars at work.  I will not be attending.

Thanks,

Lori Thielen

You can't come in at the last minute, attempt to stop plans, and expect to be successful.

Plan for the next instance of one of these houses being torn down NOW.  Develop a plan.  Fill your rolodex with contacts.

Again, the ONLY reason the BPD is allowed to demolish this building is because City Council approved the demo permit.  Twice.

Not exactly. the reason the bpd can demolish is because they bought the home before anyone knew of its unique nature.

granted, city council approved the demo twice, which was to be expected, but if a demo permit isn't applied for, there's nothing for council to vote on. No?

Once again counselor..if there are  any misgivings in the way everything went down....I am sure you are quite capable of taking the torch to the forum of the courts.

Let me know when that will happen.
