I think most people of any descent do not like to be stereotyped every single moment or for every single trait of their background, but lighten up here, it's a T.V. program . There have been many like it , and I am sure there will be many more to come.

Patsy, therein lies the problem that most Americans of Italian descent have with this TV program.  We seem to be stereotyped every single moment on every single TV show.  You made my point by saying "lighten up here".  We are always told to lighten up.  If there was a show about Jewish people taking advantage of others because of their "shrewd" business sense and all the characters had big noses and sounded like they were from New York, wouldn't the Anti Defamation League go crazy and demand the show be pulled?  Don Imus, who I personally think is an idiot made a very stupid remark and look at the uproar that is causing.  Americans of Arab  and/or Palestinian descent are now worried about being profiled because of 9-11.

I understand the fascnination about Italians, ( happens when you are the greatest group of people the earth has ever seen or known-ok Greeks too) but sometimes enough is enough.

BASTA!!!

Hope you all had a Happy Easter!!!!

You're talking about Hesh on the Soprano's.

I didn't hear what Imus said...that dude annoys me.

Cheers,
Brian

I really believe most people understand what I am trying to convey.  I am not trying to brew up a storm just putting down how I feel about the show.  I am very open and honest about how I feel about stereotyping people.  I would stand up for all races, creeds etc... because it is the right thing to do.

Merchant of Venice anyone????

cgtm,

I hope you write a script about shrewd, wheelin' dealiin' New York Jews cuz I'd love to see it...tho I don't think it would sell as well as an Italian Mob script would...cuz Italans are indeed the greatest group of ppl on the earth...I'm married to one

Also, the Jews would most likely create such an uproar over the (hypothetical) stereotypical, denigrating TV show, that it would never even make it to the pilot show

All Italian women are bitchy...oops, another stereotype

I guess because it is a TV show, we've never taken it that seriously....you attend a gathering with my family, my dad has a Godfather ring tone, and two of my aunts use the theme from The Sopranos.  We do have a stereotypical family that is big, loud and have gotten mob jokes throughout the years.   Never bothered any of us...I somewhat quit watching last season because the show was boring me.  BUT my dad and his sisters are still avid fans and watchers.  Watch most TV shows or even movies and there are some stereotypes in all of them.  When one of my friends saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding before I did, he called and said he now knew exactly what my wedding was going to be like - just substitute Italian for Greek.

And Bonster will have learned from watching The Sopranos that he should sleep with one eye open for a while  ;)

Hey - growing up my grandmother RULED my grandfather - he did everything that woman ever told him to do. :)

George,

Not only am I Italian I am the best kind.  SICILIAN.  Now we have been stereotyped by our own Countrymen.

My point is, that if I call you a loser, and you know you are not a loser it will not offend you.  But if I call you a loser and you really are a loser you WILL be offended.

Even though I was born here I heard all the stereotypes for as long as I could remember.  My brother-in-law feels the same way you do.  I can't tell you how many discussions we have had over the kitchen table about this subject.  For hours and hours.

I am very proud of my heritage and I know my heritage.  Anyone that believes that all Italians are like the mobsters has the problem, not me.  I truly feel sorry for anyone that believes that.  I would say that more Italians make it bigger than it is, and that is fine too.

I love the Sopranos.  I can not get enough of them.  I'm not offended in the least. I could not be prouder of my Heritage.  Every heritage has this same ingredient.  Enjoy the show for what it is and lighten up.

Can't actually enjoy a show I do not watch.  But for the rest of you, I am sure you all know the difference between fantasy and reality.  Thanks for letting me vent.

Again I have to pose the question with this list, Too much Acid as a youth?

and that's not nearly nuff said, Stan Lee.

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0101252/         This is absolutely the most under rated movie ever made and it is a true story.  I challenge anyone on this board to get this movie and watch it and you will agree with me.  29th Street with Danny Aiello
