2009 taxes ...1st Installment

Rec'd my bill today.  Oy.

My 1st installment is $247 more than last year.
Why won't anyone believe it's not butter ?

1st installment bills are 55% of last year's bill instead of the 50% it has always been.  They changed it this year - don't know quite who to thank for that.

Good catch, Mrs. N.

  Why did the percentage increase from 50% to 55%?  I looked at previous bills and it was 50%.

There was a notice that came with the tax bill that said the Illinois Legislature passed a law ordering that the bill be calculated at 55 percent of last year's total property tax obligation.  No clear reason given for the change but I'm betting it's because the 2nd installment due date seems to getting later and later so they want a cushion to help carry them over until they receive those taxes.
