Here is this week's city council agenda.
The biggest item is that the city is yet again increasing its long term debt by issuing a bond with principle of $8.5 million dollars. The city audit approval is also on the Agenda. There will be a presentation of both the audit and the bond issue at the Committee of the Whole meeting
Other items include approval of the city's comprehensive plan; contract extension for World of Beer; waiver of the bidding process for NSP projects (which renovates buildings) and designation of the Western Plumbing & Heating building at 7100 W. Cermak as an historical landmark.
Also, a $60K workers comp payment settlement.

Historic, that's a stretch.
Here are the Chicago requirements for Landmark status. Someone please tell me that building qualifies on any point. Berwyn isn't Chicago, but it's the same idea.
1. Its value as an example of the architectural, cultural, economic, historic, social, or other aspect of the heritage of the City of Chicago, State of Illinois, or the United States.
2. Its location as a site of a significant historic event which may or may not have taken place within or involved the use of any existing improvements.
3. Its identification with a person or persons who significantly contributed to the architectural, cultural, economic, historic, social, or other aspect of the development of the City of Chicago, State of Illinois, or the United States.
4. Its exemplification of an architectural type or style distinguished by innovation, rarity, uniqueness, or overall quality of design, detail, materials, or craftsmanship.
5. Its identification as the work of an architect, designer, engineer, or builder whose individual work is significant in the history or development of the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois, or the United States.
6. Its representation of an architectural, cultural, economic, historic, social, or other theme expressed through distinctive areas, districts, places, buildings, structures, works of art, or other objects that may or may not be contiguous.

The city council voted down historical status on the Western Plumbing by a vote of 7 to 1. According to the report in the Life, the building owner did not want historical status. The only alderman who voted in favor of historical status was Michelle Skryd.
Besides Skryd, whose idea was the historic status?

I would guess the Berwyn Historic Preservation Commission, since they submitted the request to the city council for historical status and put it on the agenda for consideration.
