On Wednesday, April 13 the North Berwyn Park District announced the 2011 Best of Berwyn candidates.  Twenty-five (25) candidates were rigidly selected from all the 8th grade students in Berwyn. 
       The initial process consists of students being nominated through applications and letters of recommendation sent in by Berwyn North School District 98, Elementary School District 100, The Berwyn Library, Pav YMCA, St. Leonard School, St. Odilo School, Berwyn Police Explorers, Berwyn Park District and the Berwyn Recreation Department.
       Round one of judging took place on April 11th & 12th where judges compiled of community leaders, teachers and public officials had the difficult task of sorting through the applications and interviewing each of the twenty-five (25) candidates to determine the finalists.  A second judging is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 18 to choose from the twelve (12) finalists, who will become the 2011 Best of Berwyn.
"We're all very excited about choosing this year's Best of Berwyn as 2011 marks this program's 10th Year Anniversary," said 7th Ward Alderman, Rafael Avila.
   The candidates, in alphabetical order, include: Itzel Alvarez, Lincoln Middle School; Liliana Balbuena, Lincoln Middle School; Alexander Ceballos, Heritage Middle School; Patricia Ebersold, St. Leonard School; Denise Fiesta, Heritage Middle School; Shannon Fricke, Freedom Middle School; Yajaira Gallegos, Heritage Middle School; Biridiana Guerrero, Heritage Middle School; Rebecca Hammond, Heritage Middle School; Jessica Hughes, Lincoln Middle School; Ann Knoll, Heritage Middle School; Esteban Lopez, Heritage Middle School; Maria Loya, Freedom Middle School; Toni Orozco, Freedom Middle School; Amy Paplaczyk, Lincoln Middle School; Ziare Paul-Emile, Lincoln Middle School; Weisner Perez, Heritage Middle School; Justine Ramirez, Lincoln Middle School; Amairani Santoyo, St. Leonard School; Perla Santoyo, Freedom Middle School; Nicole Schubert, Lincoln Middle School; Olivia Woods, Freedom Middle School; Molly Zajac-Clark, Freedom Middle School; Christopher Zavala,  Freedom Middle School; Itzayana Zepeda, Lincoln Middle School.
All the candidates, their families and representatives of the community are invited to attend the 10th Year Anniversary Best of Berwyn Banquet held this year on May 4th at Skylite West Banquets.
