Fire in Berwyn today.

In this case one functional smoke detector in a 3-unit building? (The 2nd flr tenant who alerted the 1st flr and likely called the FD)

So if you live in an apartment, changing YOUR batteries evidently isn't enough. You have to visit each unit in your building? Oh wait, that's the landlord's responsibility. If not to physically change each one, to at least provide the batteries and reminder to each tenant.

Evidently the "awareness" programs aren't as effective as they should be. It might be time to re-evaluate how those funds are being utilized.

According the the neighbor, the owner had an illegal apt in the basement-this is a 2 unit NOT a 3 unit- and was cited by the city, removed it , and put it back in.
