Learned through the Facebook grapevine that the old theater on Roosevelt Road (formerly the Teamsters HQ) has sold, and the plan is for it to be a music venue.

I thought that's where 16th St. Theater was looking to move?

Per Alderman Laureto, regarding the Teamsters Building -

16th Street Theater was outbid by a private venue.

The plan is for the theater to move into the plumbing building on 16th and Clarence which the school district gave to the park district.   Joe Vallez/NBPD had plans at the last ward meeting (which I did not attend).  It is going to be more of a "cultural center" for the park district.  It will also seat almost double what the present theater does.

Do we really need another building removed from the tax roles for the Park District?

I'm glad it ended up in private hands.

I wonder if 16th St. bid on it, too.

I doubt they have the money to purchase a commercial building like that.

How were they bidding on the Teamster's building?  TIF monies?

I thought it was NBPD that was bidding?

I thought so.  Were not they looking to move to a larger venue?  Or were they always looking to room with the NBPD?

16th Street and NBPD are joined together.

Berwyn, IL —
The North Berwyn Park District is currently negotiating on a piece of property on Roosevelt Road it hopes to turn into a new arts center.
The building would replace the park district's current 16th Street Theater space and also a filmmaking and studio arts center.
Joe Vallez, executive director of the North Berwyn Park District, said formal plans should be announced in September, and the park district hopes to open the facility by the summer of 2012.
The total cost of opening the new facility is estimated at between $600,000 and $650,000.
"We built up a market segment with the 16th Street Theater, and we're hoping that will transition into a larger arts program," Vallez added.
