Anyone know any more about this? My son is there,  incident took place last week Wednesday.  Not a word thus far from the school or the district. Lots of rumors,  though. Don't think it's right that there is no explanation for her firing.

Incident - what incident?  District 100 board members should be right out in front of why she was fired considering their shortcomings in the past when it came to wrongdoing in the district.  Most likely, they are consulting attorneys about their possible negligence and responsibility before addressing the parents who are concerned about their children and taxpayers who pay the taxes and bills in this district.  I wish I could say I was surprised by their response (or lack of it) but, unfortunately I am not.   I am appalled by their total lack of giving a crap about the people (parents and kids) they are elected to represent.  They need to explain why Laura LaSalle was fired right away to give the parents of the children in the district who attend Heritage a reason to send their kids to school tomorrow.  Any school district in a more affluent school district would demand no less but hey this is Berwyn.  I guess our kids just don't matter as much.

When I say incident,  I am referring to her being escorted from the building.  My son was not at school on the day it happened,  he was at rehearsal for the D100 musical. If it weren't for the fact that another parent volunteer telling me,  I still wouldn't be aware.

The school board needs to explain what happened - period.  Do not leave it up to the parents of the kids in the district to sit and wait and wonder.  Rumor and innuendo is most likely worse than the truth.

There is a nasty rumor circulating as to why she was fired.  But that's just what it is..... a rumor. If there is any validity to the rumor, I am sure that an explanation for the firing will be given soon.

Nasty rumors need to be explained if they are just rumors.  Again, School District 100 officials need to face this head on and give an explanation of why Laura LaSalle was fired instead of letting rumors take over.  What in the hell did she do, or not do?  Again, I am just dumbfounded by the lack of communication from District 100 Superintendent Stan Fields and Distrct 100 Board Members regarding this situation.

Roger

Maybe before they say anything they want to make sure that certain allegations are indeed true.  That's my guess.

Because this is a personnel matter, school board members are not going to give a public reason for the dismissal.

As a parent with a student in the school, I believe that we have a right to know if our students were put at risk or short-changed because of the actions/behaviors of Mrs. LaSalle. As a tax payer I believe that all Berwyn property owners have a right to know, essentially we were her employers. Certainly, I understand the need for the district to protect itself from lawsuits, but to be vague seems irresponsible. There are ways around the legal issue, use of phrases such as: suspicion of, under investigation, alleged misconduct, etc. could be used to give an explanation.

The only information regarding the firing on the BOE website is vague. Plus, you have to search out the Administrator Contract information if you want to see what is referred to, as Administrator contracts are not readily available on the BOE website.

I personally have heard rumors from more than one source regarding misappropriation of school funds, but they are just that rumors. In light of the referendums that BSD100 tried to pass for more of our money, if these rumors are true, I would certainly be interested in knowing what that meant for Heritage students and how and when restitution will take place.

I think you have a right to know when the matter has been resolved. You have no right to be involved in it's resolution. If you'd like to be involved, run for school board. More importantly, get elected.

I think the person being fired means its already been resolved. If the other employees know why then why shouldn't tax paying parents be told. If teachers tell young grammar school students in the classroom when they ask why, why not tell the parents? This is more of the usual bullshit of school administrators and school boards using the excuse of legal issues to cover their own ass from an embarrassing situation by an employee who is an administrator.

I would agree,  the firing does signal a resolution,  so why not explain it?

The firing signals an action. For the protection of all the parties, or more apt, to minimize the litigation surely to follow, information goes through channels (read: past the lawyers) before being released. It's unlikely that teachers are passing along official information to students. There is probably language in their contract prohibiting such things.

Stan Fields is well aware of the kinds of talk that can wind up costing big money. He took D209 for plenty.

Since no answers are forthcoming from District 100, I asked my daughter, who is a student at Heritage, if she knew about the firing.  She replied yes.  I asked if she knew why and she said that she heard that she had stolen money from the district.  A friend of my daughter's from school asked a teacher about the firing and the teacher told her this.  My next question is - why hasn't she been charged with a crime?  My next question after that is - why did I have to hear this from my daughter?

jfrickind

There is no doubt that the teachers are under a strict gag order.  If a student heard it from a teacher then more than likely the teacher is spreading a rumor and it needs to be stopped.  Not for the sake of the administrator but because if it wasn't an administrator - maybe a pregnant 8th grader - you wouldn't want the rumor spread.  The details will come out once everything is finalized.  Until then, go to the source; the Board of Education should be the people you call and demand answers from.  Not from teachers OR students.  Do not foster the spreading of rumors.

Everyone wants an immediate answer but that can't always happen.

She was not escorted out by police. She was escorted out by Stan. The fact that they are not clarifying this seems libelous. I've worked with her all year on DACEE and do not believe for a minute she did anything illegal. If she had - the police would have been called and would have been called when all this buzz started. Please write letters demanding a public forum about this. And come to the school board meeting on May 28

School District 100 officials need to let the parents of children in the district know what is going on.  Any school district in the Chicagoland area where they had parents who were lawyers would have done this without a doubt.  This is a disgrace.

Not clarifying this doesn't have a thing to do with libel. Recklessly delivering false information that can harm a person's reputation, however....

Has anybody bothered to see if she's been charged with anything?
