TSI= Technical Support internship?

"Morton High School has recently undergone a complete overhaul of its technology over the summer. Morton's staff has been hard at work implementing the new 1:1 computing platform.

What is unique about Morton is that integration will be supported primarily by students as part of the new (TSI) course offered. These students will be the first level of support for all software and hardware related questions at each of the buildings. The skills they learn in the new course will be used by all students and teachers."

That sounds like a great program AND a great idea to free up the IT department for critical issues.  It doesn't take a genius to ask if you've restarted the computer!

If it offers certifications that the student can take out into the working world, it's worthwhile. If it doesn't, it's just cheap labor. An expansion of the old A/V geek squad (not used as a pejorative, just the most apt descriptor.)

IT and technology integration has lagged behind IT and technology in schools for decades now, partly because the kids often know more than their teachers. Properly tapped, managed and utilized, it's a problem solver. Whoever leads this program had better be up to the security challenges.
