D201 objections appealed

Tom Tomschin has appealed the decision of the Cook County electoral board in its ruling to overrule Tomschin's objections to the candidacies of Catie Sullivan, Jill Alexander and Shelley Picha, who are running as candidates for the District 201 school board.

Tomschin had objected on two grounds - that the Statement of Economic Interest did not have an address on it (the form on the Cook County Clerk website does not have a place for address on it) and that the candidates did not specify whether they were running for a two-year seat or a 4-year seat on their statement of candidacy.  They did specify full term on their petitions.

The Cook County Electoral Board overruled Tomschin's objections, citing long standing precedent on the 2-year/4-year issue (a case from 1976 where the courts ruled specifying 2-year or 4-year on the petition is sufficient) and citing precedent on the Statement of Economic Interest as well.

Tomschin's attorney has until Friday, February 13 to file a brief.  The candidates must respond to the brief by Friday, February 20.  A status hearing will be held on Friday, February 20 to decide the date and time of the trial, which will probably occur during the week of February 23.

Some additional information - Tom Tomschin works for the Town of Cicero as a building inspector.  His wife is running for the D201 school board seat for the 2-year vacancy (the vacancy that resulted from Joe Keating resigning and taking a position in D201 as its HR Director). Tomschin also currently serves on the Cicero Elementary School District 99 school board.

One other interesting set of facts - James Nally, the lawyer representing Tomschin, received $5,000 from Larry Dominick's Cicero Voters Alliance on November 25, 2014.

Ancil Glink, the law firm that Adam Lasker works for and who was the attorney against Rita Maniotis in the Tomschin objections and against the WWIT candidates in the Mike Benda objections, has received $2,500 from the Larry Dominick's Cicero Voters Alliance.
