State Rep Lisa Hernandez is hosting a town hall meeting at Heritage Middle School (6850 31st St, Berwyn) tonight, 6pm.

Superintendents Ayala and Havis will also attend. This is a great opportunity to bring forward your questions and concerns about school funding and other issues. Please share this post!

For those of you who were not able to attend the Town Hall with Lisa Hernandez on Wednesday:
She spoke of some of the bills that were passed- of much interest-- 2 bills that will show property owners some tax relief.

Most of the focus for the meeting was regarding SB1947 - school funding- which Rauner signed yesterday. This was the compromise to SB1 whose aim was to make Illinois education funding more equitable and evidence-based and bring our schools to adequacy levels. Hopefully with this- Illinois will no long be DEAD LAST in the US in regards to educational funding.

The bill IS funded by the most recent Illinois budget that was passed by veto override so the following promises of SB1947 will go into effect immediately. Lisa confirmed that we WILL see our 1st 2 missing payments from this year as well.

1. D100 will see $3M in additional funding. Mary Havis talked about how this money will help to fund programs in the district that we have not been able to fund adequately due to the state not making payments and the district being under-funded.

2. D98 will see an additional $1.5M in funding. Dr. Ayala said that they would be able to go to full day kindergarten- which several families in the audience cheered.

3. D201 will see an additional $8.5M in funding. There were no representatives from D201 present to comment
