Well, folks, it was an interesting night tonight at the ABC candidate's forum. You missed quite a show.  One of the Republicans running for Congress, Arthur Jones, is a neo-Nazi and he brought his entourage of neo-Nazi friends (6 of them)  to the candidates forum tonight.

Later on, Berwyn's own neo-Nazi, Richard Mayers, showed up and demanded that he be allowed to speak because he was a write-in candidate.  The police had to be called to remove Mr. Mayers from the room because he was being disruptive.

Of the other candidates that were there, not much new was said or that was different from Monday's candidate's forum.  Tony Castrogiovanni spoke because he was not able to attend the February candidate's forum due to illness.

The one thing that did surprise me was that the two canddates running for state house (Lisa Hernandez in the 24th distrct and Calvin Giles in the 8th District) both said they were against the District 201 tax referendum.  That surprised me. Hernandez said it was too great a burden on the taxpayers.

just wondering ... why were you surprised Ted re: Hernandez and Giles being against the tax referendum?

I was surprised at Hernandez because she had been a member of the Cicero grade school district board for many years - so I thought given that background, she would be in favor of the referendum.

I also got the feeling that Calvin Giles wasn't that sure what the referendum was about so I think he sort of winged it. He said that he believed that the state should try to resolve the funding discrepency issues first rather than support a tax increase.

Thank you, Ted.  How was it the neo-nazi types where there in the first place?

Well, Arthur Jones is on the ballot for the 3rd Congressional District in the Republican Primary, so he was invited, just like everyone else.  Jones was at the Monday candidate's forum as well but he didn't bring his friends and he wasn't as disruptive. They were not dressed up in Nazi uniforms or anything but the two young guys looked like proto-typical Aryan neo-Nazis.  An older guy kept standing up and getting close to the guys to take pictures. It was very disconcerting.

The other candidates that were there looked very uncomfortable - I would have felt the same way too.

Well that's a shame that we have to endure that type of thing.  Yes, I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must have made the other candidates.  Terrible.

Ray Wardingly, the other Republican running for Congress, got up at the end and I think tried to apologize for Jones' behaviour.

Uncomfortable?  As a candidate I would have cut him a fresh A**hole in a heartbeat,
my guess is Lipinski sat there like the lap dog child he is to simply step down after this term
to collect full benefits for his diabetic condition...

Daddy took care of everything....

Except Jerry Hurkes kickbacks on every printing job that went thru the 3rd district...

Things get so messy when there is a paper trail

Ted

Bear,

Lipinski wasn't there... he had an aide come and hand out literature and said that Lipinski was in Washington.  The only candidates that showed up were John Sulivan (running for Congress as a Democrat), Calvin Giles, Lisa Hernandez, a representative for LaShawn Ford (also running in the 8th state house district), a representative for Oberweis and Tony Castrogiovanni as well as the Republican Congressional candidates - Wardingly and Jones.

From Jones's site:

Says he's a member of the NSWPP but doesn't spell it out. That's National Socialist White People's Party, folks.

Tonight, Jones called for the impeachment of George Bush.    Interesting - one Republican wanting to impeach another Republican.

I am not voting in the Republican primary but if any of you out there are voting in the Republican primary, I suggest you vote for Ray Wardingly.  Otherwise you are going to have an embarrassment on your hands in the fall.

I was wondering if he was going to show his true colors.  I was at the forum on Monday and he seemed somewhat normal.  I was contemplating the possibility that he had actually mellowed somewhat.

I remember a few years ago during a previous campaign, he rang my doorbell and started out saying something that I think I may have responded to in a manner he interpreted as agreement with him.  Then he launched into an incredibly hateful, nonsensical, racist diatribe and he just wouldn't let up.  His survival instincts must have finally kicked in because he stopped ranting and left just about one second before I was about to push him down the stairs.

Im sure Mutual of Omaha will be quite pleased to
know they have a neo-nazi representing their products...

But then again, he and people like him
may represent 90% of their client base

I love the fact that Richard Mayers showed up.  I can't understand how he gets on th ebalots every year as a write-in vote. ...Damnit, he's in my precinct, that means that at 6:55pm he will show up with his family, ask to see the write-ins and vote for himself.  Give up man, just give up.

Just remember - Freedom of speech means they have the same right to spew their trash as anyone else. Fortunately - we don't have to listen or give them the time of day.

Mayers is in the first Ward 8th precinct.  I think you can sleep well at night he is sufficiently removed from you.  If his presence still causes you to lose sleep and stay up posting til the wee hours of the morning, "alternative" means could be employed to remove the threat.
