Daniel Craig does a great job as the "pre-double 0" status Bond ... and deserves a Tough Guy nod.  He was a tough S.O.B. in Casino Royale.  I think Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Peirce Brosnon were all too suave to be considered "tough guys".  Sure they kicked ass - but they didn't have that brute quality that makes a "tough guy".

Charles Bronson seems to sum up "tough guy" to me.

What?  No one has mentioned the tough guy king, himself, Chuck Norris????

"Chuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter"."

mmmm.  I don't know about you Melliman.  I'm thinkin your idea of tough and mine are worlds apart.  You must put your hands in front of your eyes when you know a real tough guy will appear. :)

My choice for tough guy ?

Lee Marvin

Northsider--NOT Northside 7

I agree with most of the actors mentioned, two iimportant ones I think missed, Jean Reno from The Professional and James Statham from Transporter. I think Death Wish 1 and Dirty Harry were turning points for tough guys. There was a new standard. How about Lee Ermy, Full Metal Jacket I don't think he has been used to his full potential.

I think Matt Damon is pretty bad-ass in the "Bourne" flicks.

Remo Williams was a great tough guy film...circa 1985

Lee Marvin was really one hell of a tough guy in real life, as evidenced by his "act" during genuine wartime. And, gentlemanly, denied his abilities as compared to those of the guy who went on to become "Captain Kangaroo".

Watching Dirty Dozen right now, Berwynson.  Great movie.
