How does it stand up to the BBC version? I've only seen the pilot of the U.S. version, which seemed OK.

I've never seen the BBC version, but I understand it was an acclaimed series.  This version is pure American humor - lots of politically incorrect, irreverent jokes by the writers.  If you work in an office, its all the comments people would say if the HR folks wouldn't fire them for it.
