My company is looking for a tech person for 3rd Shift. Offices in Loop close to trains. They are very picky about who they hire and I do not have any say in the hiring process or any direct relation to the team itself. Network Operations Center Support Engineer/Administrator - Corporate Services

Job Description
The Network Operations Center (NOC) Support Engineer will be one of the resources responsible for year round 24 hour and 7 day a week support and monitoring of the Cars.com website infrastructure (applications and associated hardware).

Required Skills
The ideal candidate will be passionate about technology and the Internet. 
The candidate must be a team player and detailed oriented. 
Prior technical operations/customer service/service desk experience in the Internet space is a plus. 
Knowledge of the Internet (and associated technologies), with some knowledge in UNIX and LINUX operating systems, JAVA/j2ee based applications, and relational databases is required. 

Additionally, the position requires strong analytical skills, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to learn quickly. 

This position will require work during after-office/evening hours and weekends. 
The primary shift is 3rd shift (midnight - 8 am).

Required Experience
4 year college degree preferred (background in Computer Science, Information Technology/Information Services),
1 year work experience preferred

If it's $100k+ then there might be some people interested.  (Not me, I have no networking experience).

n01 - I don't know the salary range. Sorry, not privy to that info but it will be shared with those applying. My company tends to pay average market value as a general practice (with above average benefits and great advancement oppt). So whatever the average going rate is for someone of those qualifications in our marketplace, that's probably indicative of the range.

Actually, another friend in my network just sent me the job posting below which is out in Elgin's school district. This might also be of interest to some folks. Note the salary range of 30-38K.

I am an out of work computer support technician w/ over 20 yrs exp.

I've done some local home work, just finished upon w/ a user converted from a WinXP PC to Mac.

If anyone knows of job openings for desktop computer technical support, I would be glad to email/forward a copy of my resume.

Not likely for a support role, but it maybe that additional skills will get you more money (notice the mention of J2EE and database skills).

This looks more like an applications support role than Network, given there are no mentions of network skills.

Working 3rd shift you are on a bit of an island.  The normal folks aren't around to help solve problems, so a more skilled person is sometimes valued more in the off hours.
