Isn't that a nice old building?  What is to go in?  A stripmall or CVS?

Looks like another one will bite the dust and I really doubt there will be much opposition in Cicero.  There are some really beautiful homes (great bungalows) on the stretch from 16th to Cermak on Austin.  I actually met a woman at Proska Park when my 19 and 16 year old were little who used to own the one with stone lions in front who sold and moved to Riverside when she had her first child.  As for strip malls, I was driving down Harlem north today and noticed they're building one on the FP side of the street by Harlem and Roosevelt where the old medical supply building used to be.  I couldn't help thinking about how many vacant storefronts there are now but I must say that WAS a building that was a eyesore and needed to come down.  However, the building at Cermak and Austin is not.

Talk about beautiful buildings, have you ever been inside that bank?  Marble
every where, beautiful draperies, now that would be a shame to tear down.
Cicero can't possibly be letting that one go?   Mustang, what's your take?
Save the bank, talk to Larry, will ya?

So, have you ever been inside that building?  Or is all the marble and gold just
not your cup of tea?

BP - I'm definitely on your side on this one.  I think it's terrible when they tear down a building like that and replace it with another cookie cutter strip mall or CVS or something like that.  When I said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder I meant that people who buy and tear down those buildings and the towns that let them do it are obviously blind to the history and integrity of such a building - or, more likely, could just care less.

I can't see that building being torn down. It looks like some kind of construction maybe for a drive up?

I asked a freind of mine about the bank and hes not positive but he heard that Fifth Third is building a small bank on the parking lot and will then tear down the old bank.

I don't know if the signs are still up there but they are rebuilding the 5th 3rd bank in the parking lot.  I remember seeing signs stating that was going to happen like late last year.

Don't know about the old bank building it's currently in if it will be torn down or not.  I would think so since they are rebuilding the bank in the parking lot, they are going to need some parking.

That land is way to valuable to be a parking lot.  Unless Cicero makes them use it as parking, they will sell it if this in fact is the case.

I drove past the job site and it does look as if they are building a new smaller bank and drive up. I still have a hard time thinking that the old bank will be torn down? Progress?

I have a friend who is the architectural PM for Fifth Third at CB Richard Ellis. I'll see what he has to say about it.

Response: No demo. Just new construction in old parking lot.
