I thought someone here mentioned that BFM was moving down Ogden Ave. to Lyons or someplace around there. I was in BFM recently and the owner said that that was news to him. I've grown irritated with Tony's long deli lines so am spending my deli time at BFM.

I've never understood why Tony's won't hire enough people to staff the deli. Tonini's is also an excellent deli choice. Joe and Frank's beats them all though.

For us ignants, who are Joe and Frank and where does their meat not get beaten?

A suggestion (if it can work for you, that is)

At Tony's, if the deli lines are long, I usually go get a ticket, then go and pick out produce.
I never understand why I see so many ppl with full carts waiting around aggravated at the deli counter. Unless you are going there only for the deli, you can go get other stuff before your number is up. You can usually hear the deli numbers being called from the produce section.
If you're going there for deli items only, however, you gotta either time it right, or just be prepared to wait. Some of their prices are really good, so I don't mind sucking it up if I have to. There have been times tho, that the line is just too long for what I want, and I'll move on. When their roast beef is 3.99/lb, or they have sara lee turkey products for the same price, I'll more than likely wait it out. I don't buy too much else from the deli counter, but if you can do other stuff while waiting, go for it!

Dukesdad, great reminder about Joe & Frank's. I haven't been there in a year at least, it seems.
BFM has some great prices on deli stuff I'd buy as well.

Tony's is not the only game in town, but standing in line waiting for a number to be called is avoidable if you are there for other stuff.

I never wait in line; that's what wives are for.  ::)

watcher, Joe & Franks is on the SE corner of Harlem & Archer.

We've decided to shop Toninis for deli, comparable prices and no long lines.

Lunch meat is comparable to BFM?   If it is, that's a great deal

Tonini's has a much smaller deli area than BFM which I would expect considering their size.  They do have good quality lunchmeat and the prices are reasonable also.  However, they don't have the selection that BFM does which is fine for most people, including myself.  I tried Tony's once and wasn't impressed considering the confusion and craziness with too many customers and not enough help.  I also avoid BFM on the weekends because it can get quite crazy there also although they seem to have enough help.  Jewel, well you better be prepared to bend over in terms of prices at the deli.

Just an FYI if there is something in particular that you guys are looking for at the deli let me know. We are always looking for suggestions. Several customers asked for Hawaiian Salad & Creamy Seafood Salad so we started carrying those items. I would say we would pretty much consider adding anything unless it was something that wouldn't be a decent seller such as hog head cheese LOL. We carry the most popular items in the deli that have a good turnover. We don't want anything sitting for any extended period of time.

Have you ever heard of or tried a BLT salad? I've had it a couple of times and it was very good.  I've never seen it anywhere around here.  My sister-in-law lives out west and I think she either got it at a Food 4 Less or Cubs Foods back in the day.....    (I've never shopped at the Food 4 Less around here)

BLT salad is a deli regular at the Stickney Jewel.
Why won't anyone believe it's not butter ?

It is?  I must have missed it then.  I always look and never saw it.  Thanks, I'll check again.

I looked into the BLT Salad & believe it or not there is like 25 variations. Some have macaroni, pasta, lettuce or dip style. Can you guys elaborate on the type of BLT salad you had & let me know what is in it. Then I will try to make it or get a version of it from our distributor.
Thanks so Much!

I didn't buy because I grow tomatoes.  I can make it myself.
At Jewel it looks really boring.  Just small tomato wedges, some bacon (or worse bacon bits) and what looked like a combo of Romaine and head lettuce in a very watery mayo-like dressing.

I haven't had a BLT salad in quite a while....I couldn't say exactly what was in it besides the obvious.  I do believe it was the "lettuce style" though.  The next time I talk to my sister-in-law I'll ask if she remembers.  After reading Buzz's description of the one at the Stickney Jewel I'm glad I never saw it to buy it!

Thanks Everyone! I might make the Pasta Salad one with REAL Bacon....YUCK can't stand bacon bits I feel like I am eating a dog treat LOL

Does anyone else here drink 7-Star Metaxa Greek brandy? I've been buying it for years at BFM, because it's one of the few places locally that stock it. But the last couple of bottles have seemed a little lower in quality than it used to be. It tasted more like the 5-Star variety. Just wondered if anyone else had noticed this issue?
